Health & Safety Protocol
Keeping everyone healthy and safe is our #1 priority!
Our major focus is always on the health and safety of everyone doing detasseling work. We will be following all protocols established by the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, as well as other health authorities. At the present time, they are as follows, and will be updated as required:
What QDC will do and provide
We will do a thorough COVID-19 symptoms assessment (including temperature scan) of each person before they get on the bus. Specialized Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as 3-ply masks and plastic face shields will be provided for transporting workers before they get on the buses.
Only be one person allowed per seat this year, and there will be no moving around on the buses.
We have large quantities of hand sanitizer and spray disinfectant to be used regularly throughout the day as required.
Liquid soap, water, and paper towels will also be provided for regular use throughout the day.
Everyone will work in the fields at a physical distance of at least 2 meters (6 feet). Working outside makes this relatively easy!
We will conduct a complete training for all rules and procedures immediately for each person on their first day of work.
What each employee must do and provide
Every worker must follow all Health and Safety rules and procedures as trained on and instructed.
Do a self assessment for COVID-19 symptoms such as a recent fever, cough, difficulty breathing, muscle pain, severe headache, sore throat or runny nose each day. If you have any of these symptoms on a given day, then do NOT go to your pick up location.
Maintain physical distancing of at least 2 meters (6 feet) at the pick up location at all times.
Bring at least 4 litres (1 gallon) of water. We will not be providing a backup supply for everyone this year.
Bring a plastic bag (such as a grocery bag) to remove any personal waste and debris from breaks and lunch.
Every worker will take their face shield home at the end of the work day and clean it with soap and hot water.
